Lincoln city kicks off LED street light conversion plan for $12.2 million

Jun,05,2018

It has becoming global trend to switch to LED street lights. Cities across the globe are doing the same, and Lincoln is following suit. So far hundreds of thousands of LED street lights has been burning, but the future plan is within the next year all 31,000 of them will be replaced.

Around four thousand LED street lights have been serving, and soon every street, main and residential, will be lit up by LED street lights. They emit little white and yellow light, which is our traditional light right now. These new-replaced streets have delivered a totally different new look.

A spokesperson points out that the decision has been made in 2016 to switch street lights to LED bulbs. Not that how much energy and maintenance savings can be saved are on the list that can be calculated. And now is the time to change all the traditional street lights with LED street lights. Their agreement is with Schneider Electric to replace the rest of the 27,000 street lights.

These new-type LED street lights emit better and safer light. They use much less energy and they’re better for the environment as they cut carbon emission. Different from traditional high pressure sodium lamp containing a great deal mercury vapor, which will release to the environment if broken, LED street light is free from the previous substance. It is environment-friendly and green.

"We can use those energy savings and maintenance savings to pay back our savings account. It takes about 10 years, but an LED will last 25 years," said local authority.
